Re: Membership Committee  2006-2008

I reviewed the July issue of The Zontian this weekend and reread Glenne Harding's "Grow for the Gold" article.  She is encouraging smaller clubs to grow membership through effective recruitment and revitalization/retention to 25 by May 2007.  For ZQV that translates to adding 8 new members and keeping our current team of 17.

For the growth objective, she suggests:

  • "Recruit to retain" and increase quality of membership
  • Anticipate losses and prevent them; when they happen, replace quickly
  • Improve club meeting formats, admin and programs
  • Develop improved fellowship and networking.

For the retention objective, she suggests focusing on what's valued by members.  For new members, that might entail assigning mentors to each and keep checking in on their satisfaction level. We know from survey results and discussions what existing members value and expect:

  • the international aspects of Zonta
  • mission focused service projects
  • making a meaningful difference for women
  • interesting, informative programs
  • camaraderie and networking.

With this info in mind, our committee needs to come up with some strategies for achieving recruitment and retention goals.

I thought it might be a good idea to start with a snapshot of what we have in place already and see what, if anything, needs to be tweaked.

Membership committee procedures/guidelines (2002) - I'd like you to review and identify any areas for discussion. I only have hard copies of these - I'll have copies at the October Dinner Meeting.

Information Kit for Guests - enough to inform but not overwhelm.
Please review the following and let me know if you would recommend anything additional.

Activities to attract new members and recognize current members
Please review and add to this list. We can prioritize later.

  • Article/blurb in each newsletter - recruitment ideas
  • Spotlight interview (and picture) in each newsletter on an existing member
  • Display of some sort at each dinner meeting
  • Birthday recognitions in the Bog
  • Press Releases every month on info of interest to the public and meeting info
  • Generate a database of women we know of and admire and send personal invitations

  Please review:
Satisfaction Survey and Member Audit  - Would either of these be useful?
