State Rep Anne Gobi named Founder’s Day Recipient
Western MA ~ Anne M. Gobi, Massachusetts State Representative, has been chosen by the Zonta Club of Quaboag Valley to receive its Founders Day award. She will be honored at the Club’s dinner meeting on March 12, 2011 6pm at Ludlow Country Club, 1 Tony Lema Drive, Ludlow, MA
Rep. Gobi was first elected to the Mass House of Representatives in 2001 and represents the 11 towns of the 5th Worcester District. Prior to entering the Legislature Anne taught public high school and attended Mass School of Law in the evening. Anne opened her own law practice in 1996 and worked with Legal Assistance Corporation of Central Massachusetts to provide free legal services to victims of Domestic Violence through their office and various shelters in Central Mass. Anne has continued to advocate for a number of issues that affect victims of Domestic Violence, and presently, as a member of the Women's caucus, has cosponsored bills to update 209A restraining orders to give victims greater protections and enhancing the ability of law enforcement to act on the orders.
Ann currently serves as the House Chair of the Committee on Environment, Natural Resources and Agriculture. She was recently named Vice-Chair of the Environment Committee for the National Conference of State Legislators and also serves as a member of that organization’s Nuclear Committee. Anne has had the opportunity to travel to Haiti and work with the group "Forward In Health" to bring health care to the children in rural villages. She is supportive of the Dana Farber Cancer Center and has ridden 7 times in the Pan-Mass Challenge Bike Ride from Sturbridge to Provincetown. Anne is a member of the Ware VFW Auxiliary, North Brookfield American Legion Auxiliary, Barre Women's Club, West Brookfield Lions Club, The Exchange Club of Spencer and various community bands.
The Founders Day award is given annually to a woman in the greater Quaboag area who exemplifies the ideals of Zonta International, a service organization of business and professional women. Past recipients of the award include Erin Pincine, Bonny Rathbone, Nancy Fletcher, Gertrude (Trudy) Canterbury, Kathleen Conley Norbut, Janice Marciniec, Mary Ann Rigali, Tess Pelissier and Janice Kucesicz.
